FAQ's

Have questions about our services, or what to expect at Summit Performance Rehab & Wellness Centre? Our FAQ section is designed to provide quick answers to common inquiries. If you don't find what you're looking for here, please don't hesitate to contact us directly!

1

Do you direct bill?

YES! At Summit Performance Rehab & Wellness Centre, we understand that managing healthcare expenses can be a concern. That's why we're pleased to offer direct billing for many major insurance providers, allowing for a smoother, more convenient experience for our patients. Simply provide your insurance details, and our team will verify your coverage and process your claims for eligible services. Please note that while we direct bill, it's always best to understand your specific policy coverage beforehand.

2

What should I wear to my appointment?

For your appointment, we recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement. Athletic wear is often ideal. This helps us accurately assess your movement and allows for effective treatment. If you don't have suitable clothing, or if your treatment requires it, we can provide a gown, or we'll work with whatever you are comfortable in to ensure your privacy and effective care.

3

Is a referral from my family doctor required?

No, you do not need a medical doctor's referral to see a Chiropractor at Summit Performance Rehab & Wellness Centre. We are primary healthcare providers, meaning you can book an appointment directly.

However, it's always a good idea to check with your specific extended health insurance provider, as some individual plans may still require a referral for reimbursement purposes.

4

What does a concussion evaluation involve?

A comprehensive concussion evaluation at Summit Performance Rehab & Wellness Centre is a three separate appointment, in-depth assessment designed to thoroughly understand the impact of your head injury. It involves a detailed review of your injury history and symptoms, followed by a series of specialized tests. These may include assessments of:

  • Vestibular function: How your inner ear and brain coordinate balance and spatial orientation.

  • Oculomotor function: Eye movements, tracking, and focus.

  • Balance and coordination: Using various balance tests.

  • Cervical spine (neck): As neck injuries often accompany concussions and contribute to symptoms.

  • Neurocognitive function: Brief screening of cognitive abilities.

  • Exertion Tolerance (e.g., Buffalo Concussion Treadmill Test): For those progressing towards return-to-play or return-to-activity, we may utilize controlled exertion tests like the Buffalo Concussion Treadmill Test to safely assess symptom tolerance and guide activity progression.

Beyond testing, a crucial part of our evaluation involves general patient education on their concussion. We'll explain what a concussion is, common symptoms, recovery expectations, and strategies for managing your symptoms at home. This thorough evaluation helps us accurately diagnose your condition, identify specific impairments, and create a highly personalized recovery plan to guide your safe return to daily activities, work, or sport.

Please note: While a comprehensive concussion evaluation is recommended for those with head injury symptoms, if you wish, you are welcome to opt for a standard chiropractic initial evaluation instead, which focuses on general musculoskeletal concerns rather than the specialized concussion assessment.

5

Is there free parking?

YES! We offer convenient parking options for our patients. You'll find free street parking directly in front of the clinic, as well as free parking spaces in the municipal parking located behind our building, accessible off 4th Street.

6

Do you have a cancellation policy?

We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we kindly request 24 hours notice. This allows us to offer that appointment slot to another patient who needs care.

Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours notice, or missed appointments, may be subject to a cancellation fee. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation, as this policy helps us serve all our patients effectively.

7

Is it safe for children and pregnant women to receive chiropractic care?

Yes, absolutely! Chiropractic care is widely recognized as a safe and effective option for both children and pregnant women.

For children, chiropractic adjustments are gentle and tailored to their developing bodies, often helping with issues related to growth, posture, and common childhood complaints.

For pregnant women, chiropractic care can be invaluable in managing common discomforts such as back pain, hip pain, and sciatica as their bodies change. Techniques are adapted to ensure safety and comfort throughout all stages of pregnancy, helping to support the body for a more comfortable pregnancy and prepare for birth.

Our practitioners are specifically trained to provide gentle, specialized care for these populations.

8

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept various payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, cash, and health insurance. Our goal is to make our services accessible to all patients.

9

How do I schedule an appointment?

To schedule an appointment, you can call our clinic during business hours or use our online booking system. We strive to accommodate your preferred time slots. With online booking, please make sure to select the appropriate appointment length and service!

10

Do you accept WSIB and/or Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) claims?

Yes, we do! Summit Performance Rehab & Wellness Centre is equipped to manage both Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims and Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) claims (sometimes referred to as auto accident claims).

If you've been injured at work or in a car accident, our team can help guide you through the process. We will bill directly to WSIB or your auto insurance provider (once your claim is approved) and assist you with the necessary paperwork to ensure your focus remains on your recovery. Please inform our administrative team about your claim when booking your initial appointment.

11

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments you'll need is highly individualized and varies from person to person. It depends on several factors, including:

  • The nature and severity of your condition

  • How long you've had the issue

  • Your overall health and lifestyle

  • How well you respond to treatment

  • Your specific health and performance goals

After your comprehensive initial assessment, Dr. Nevills or your therapist will discuss a personalized treatment plan with you, including an estimated number and frequency of visits, as well as your prognosis. Our goal is always to get you back to feeling your best as efficiently as possible, while also equipping you with tools for long-term well-being.

12

Do you treat more than just neck and back pain?

Most certainly! While we're well-known for effectively treating back pain, our scope at Summit Performance Rehab & Wellness Centre extends far beyond the spine. We specialize in assessing and treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions affecting the entire body, from head to toe. This includes common issues like neck pain, headaches, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, and foot pain, as well as sports injuries, postural imbalances, sciatica, TMJ issues, and concussions. Our focus is on optimizing your body's overall function and movement to help you achieve your full health and performance potential.

13

Is chiropractic safe? What is an adjustment and does it hurt?

Chiropractic care is widely recognized as a very safe and effective healthcare option. Chiropractors are highly trained, regulated primary healthcare professionals in Canada, undergoing extensive university-level education. Serious risks associated with chiropractic adjustments are extremely rare.

An adjustment (also known as a spinal manipulation) is a highly skilled, precise, and gentle force applied to a specific joint in the spine or extremities that is not moving properly. The goal is to restore normal motion, improve joint function, and decrease pain, allowing your body to heal and function optimally.

Most patients find adjustments to be comfortable and often experience immediate relief. While you might hear a "pop" sound (which is simply the release of gas bubbles from the joint fluid, similar to cracking your knuckles), the procedure itself is typically not painful. Some individuals might experience mild, temporary soreness similar to post-exercise muscle soreness, but this usually subsides quickly. Your chiropractor will always discuss the procedure and ensure you are comfortable throughout your treatment.

14

Is chiropractic safe? What is an adjustment and does it hurt?

Your first appointment is a comprehensive step in establishing your care plan, starting with necessary paperwork and health forms. We will then conduct a thorough history to understand your background, followed by a physical examination to pinpoint the root cause of your concerns. Next, we'll sit down for a Report of Findings (ROF) where we'll clearly explain your diagnosis, what we've found, the proposed treatment plan, and your prognosis. Finally, if time allows, we will begin with your initial treatment.
